The instant a dovetail saw first kissed the softwood endgrain of a project in a woodwork class at school, that was it. My soul pupose, my passion had been found. The unquenchable fire had been lit and has continued to burn ever since. Time flashed by. This was what it felt like to be in the moment. Total focus. The classroom could have fallen down around my ears. I doubt I would have noticed. I found it tiresome to be told to put down the tools in hand and to gather around our tutor so that he may impart his knowledge. Tiresome that he interupted me in the process of creating a masterpiece of a basic kitchen implement. I’ve never forgotten it. It was as if it was yesterday. Maybe that tutor never knew what he had started in the mind of a 13 year old boy. That boy never left. He is still in there somewhere. Tongue out, concentrating fiercely.
